The Good Life by @GenevieveDewey #Romance #ASMSG

Hello my lovelies… long time no talk, right?

Well, I’ve come out of the career world of math and accounting to tell you about a wonderfully sweet, romantic, and funny book that my great friend, Genevieve Dewey has written!

The Good Life…

The Good Life

Detective Kyle Anderson is a man of simple tastes and reasonably low expectations. Give him a juicy steak and no homicides, and he’d call it good. When his sister Katelyn got engaged to his best friend Dominic, he’d figured the worst of the unnecessary drama in his life was over. But that was before Dom’s free-spirited, twig-eating, exasperating sister Demetria came back to Nebraska and completely hijacked the planning of the wedding, starting with inviting Dom’s ex-wife Isabel. Now Kate’s so determined to prove Isabel is up to no good that she insists Kyle date her to keep her away from Dom. Soon Kyle is so knee deep in Anderson-Valentini dramatics, he’s thinking of changing his name and moving to Tibet. If he could just get Demi the impossibly sexy granola-flake off his mind long enough to do it…

Author’s Note: Contains both Dom and Kate short romances The Bird Day Battalion and The V-Day Aversion as well as the full length novel The Good Life.

Also included in this spectacular novel:

The Bird Day Battalion

Meet Katelyn Anderson, a play by the rules, temporarily out of work archaeologist desperate to pull off the perfect Thanksgiving dinner for her family. Enter Dominic Valentini, her oldest friend and former neighbor, a take chances, take control, think outside the box kind of man. Kate needs his help. Dom just needs her.

The V-Day Aversion

It’s two days from Valentine’s Day, and Dominic is a man with a plan. Katelyn is a woman with her own plan: avoid whatever Dominic’s got planned. When Katelyn’s sister Kandace asks Kate to help catch her estranged husband cheating, Kate jumps at the opportunity because she hates Valentine’s Day. Poor Dom just wants Kate to stand still long enough to give her a Valentine’s Day to remember. Can he offer her something to change her mind?

The Good Life excerpt  #2 (~750 words, sexual content):

TheGoodLifePaperbackCover

He stood up and led her onto the dance floor to join the bride and groom. No one looked askance at them, after all, they were the maid of honor and best man; it was tradition anyway. But when he kept her in a close embrace even into the next song, Demi caught her brother’s eye. He had that protective look back on his features. She pushed Kyle away just slightly. He obliged, but only just.

Kyle’s eyes were smoky and dark like the underside of a storm cloud. He began to sing along with the song in a soft baritone, “Wise men say… only fools rush in… but I…”

“Stop,” she hissed. Her voice sounded insincere even to her own ears. It didn’t help he was doing a pretty good impression of Elvis, and her favorite song, no less.

He grinned and the laugh lines at the edge of his eyes highlighted a scar next to his eyebrow she hadn’t noticed previously.

“Where’d you get that scar?” she asked.

“Dom and I and some college buddies were white river rafting about six years ago and my tube tipped over. He actually saved my life. It’s extra ironic because at the time we still disliked each other, and were only there together because we had a mutual friend invite us both. But after that, and a bottle of Wild Turkey, we’ve been tight.”

“I didn’t realize that,” she whispered, wondering why she had never thought to ask.

“A lot’s happened while you were away,” he said. For once there was no accusation or judgment in his tone.

She looked over his shoulder again. Kate was unsubtly dragging Dom from the floor where he was glowering at Kyle and Demi’s dance. She urged him to sit down at the table with her parents, back facing towards them. Shortly thereafter, Kyle began to guide Demi towards the edge of the room, making her wonder if twins had some sort of ESP.

“Kyle…” she warned. “Someone will notice.”

“Let them.”

“Kyle…”

“I want to be with you, Demetria. Go on dates, have sex and pointless arguments, figure out why you like to eat rabbit food, be the person you call first when you’ve had a bad day, come over and hold your hair when you’re sick. How much clearer can I make this?” he asked.

They were now at the edge of the hall. He dropped his embrace and tugged her by the hand. She didn’t know why she followed. Maybe the daze brought on by his goofy list, maybe the way her heart raced at the simple sweetness of it. Maybe it was the sugar high.

Kyle tugged her into a side room and shut the door. Just like their first time, Demi was the one to draw his mouth to hers. His hands undid his belt and slacks then pushed her dress up, and yanked her hose down. He hitched her up and backed into a chair, keeping their mouths locked. He grabbed her hips as he sat and she knelt to straddle him in it.

Ungh,” she moaned when he entered her without any more preparation than a few dozen sensuous kisses. She was just dry enough that it felt forceful, but wet enough for it to not be painful. For some reason the rough sensation was an incredible turn on. She grabbed his head and deepened her kisses while he moved her up and down on his cock. He broke the kiss and moved his mouth to her neck.

“Say yes,” he whispered.

She shivered from the tickle it made on her skin. She had forgotten what she was supposed to be answering. She gripped his head firmer and started moving faster on his lap. He grabbed her hips and stilled her, then waited until she looked in his eyes.

“Say yes,” he repeated. “Take a chance on me. On us.” His voice and expression were passionate and demanding.

Her flesh and soul felt inexorably tangled up in lust and longing, yearning not just for his body, but to discover what it would be like to be cherished by him.

It is necessary to read First, I Love You (Downey #1) and Second of All (Downey #2) prior to reading Third Time’s The Charm.

And now, An EXCLUSIVE (never before seen) excerpt from Third Time’s The Charm:

When her gaze finally lifted to his, his face was blank. The only emotion vaguely present was resignation. The same little devil that had prompted her to invite him to supper with Jack and Claire on her last visit took over. She lifted her chin.

“I’ll stay with you. Ten minutes for every question you answer truthfully.”

“Why? So you can act outraged again and run away?”

“Run away?” Mary’s heart was running so fast in her chest her ribs actually ached. “I’m not running away. And I’ve a right to be upset with what you’ve told me.”

His eyebrows contracted faintly but he continued to stare at her blankly. She walked forward and grabbed the box from his hands. She knew it was his surprise at the action more than anything that had him letting loose.

“These are mine. You meant them for me. You might want to lie to yourself they were meant for you, but the lying to me stops today. Now,” Mary finished firmly.

She ignored the slightly outraged, stunned look on his face and marched towards the door.

“You want to know the truth, Mary?”

She turned back around at the marked anger in his voice. He had only rarely been angry with her. They had fought like cats and dogs that last year they were together but he had always fought with a detached sort of disdain and condescension, only rarely with anger.

He stood up slowly, his eyes burning, nostrils flaring.

“Well, here’s the truth, Mary, and don’t go crying because it’s not what you wanted to hear. I’m as sick of that as you are of the lies. The truth is I didn’t want to retire. Not the first time, not this last time, not ever. I moved mountains to try and be with you and Tommy and it didn’t work. Then I asked you what would work and did that, and all it’s done is put all of us at risk, and you’re still playing games. Tormenting me.”

“Tormenting you!”

“Yes, Goddamn it! Dates, conditions, games. Here’s some more truth, Mary. I hate being retired. I hate relying on Carlo and the fucking cops and I hate being good. I miss the rush of making money, being in charge, breaking the law. Is that enough truth for you? When will it be enough sacrifices for you? When are you going to sacrifice something for me?”

Mary thought maybe it was the trembling from her emotions but it took her several seconds to really grasp he’d said that. She continued to stand there for a full minute. How could he be so clueless?

“Sacrifice? Are you serious? I sacrificed my entire life to be your mistress. The first four years of our child’s life were spent living a lie. I sacrificed the joy of a family unit, I raised our son alone.”

“By choice.”

“I have been alone because I couldn’t risk anyone finding out who his father really was! I sacrificed my young and pretty years on the RUN! I sacrificed finding love and having a real family, having more children. Now I’m a dumpy middle aged woman with a grown man for a son. I just sold the home I worked myself to the bone to earn to move here! I sacrificed everything!”

5 Star Review: Second of All from The Downey Trilogy by @GenevieveDewey #ASMSG

Kikibanner

A #naughtycouch exclusive excerpt from Second of All by Genevieve Dewey

She felt a fissure of awareness that made goose bumps on her skin and she somehow knew he had shifted his brooding gaze to her profile. She waited for him to say something, but the limo remained silent. She felt him shift ever so slightly towards her then the car began to slow.

“We’re here, Miss Downey,” Kevin said through the intercom.

“Thank you, Kevin,” Kiki answered, slipping her heels back on.

She glanced at James and saw he was frowning menacingly at his jacket across from him. It was both exciting and off-putting at the same time. Exactly who was he mad at? Her? Her family? Poor Kevin? Ugh, she was so tired of worrying about everyone else’s feelings. When Kevin opened the door she got out and marched into the lobby without waiting for James. She pretended like he didn’t exist as they rode in the elevator to their sensibly priced room (as sensible as one could get at a five-star luxury hotel – a hard-won victory on her part over his stubborn pride). She could tell he was still sending her intense almost predatory looks, but if he wasn’t going to communicate, why should she?

Kiki heard the hotel door thunk closed behind them and the snick of the security bolt as she walked forward started taking her heels off. She hadn’t made it but three steps in when James grabbed her arm and twirled her around. She looked into his eyes, startled, and gasped a little as he yanked her towards him, crushing his mouth to hers. She could taste the alcohol from his drinks on his lips and reflexively put her arms around him as he wrapped his arms around her, kissing her madly.

James hitched her up around his waist and pressed her up against the wall of the hotel room, one hand making its way under her dress and yanking her underpants down a bit. Her head felt sandwiched between the wall and his mouth, his tongue as demanding as his fingers on her pelvis. She dug her fingernails into his arms and wrapped her legs around him, trying to both get a better grip and a bit more freedom. Instead he pressed his torso even more against hers, and she could feel the gun from his holster against her side and the badge against his belt. He scooted her up a bit then dropped his grip on her waist, and undid his pants as her legs slowly listed down. She held onto his shoulders with her hands, and managed to gasp out between kisses,

“James!”

He ignored her and finished dropping his pants, then grabbed her legs back up around his waist. His mouth crushed against hers again, almost painfully in its possessiveness and his hands grabbed her hands and pressed them above her head against the wall…

I know you’re reading to go and buy it already… but wait!!!

Please read my 5 STAR REVIEW … then you may go buy both books!

Second of All-

I’m always afraid I’m going to give away too much in my reviews… and the last one I did; I was accused of being a book spoiler.

So…

I love the series so far. I just wrote the review for first in the series, First, I love you, and I can’t wait for the 3rd book to come out Third Time’s the Charm

The author Genevieve Dewey takes you to the heart of Chicago, and deposits you in the middle of the Downey family. The Godfather meets Romance, that’s how I would describe this book. Each character is unique and quirky, and I feel it allowed the reader to step into one or more of the characters shoes, and walk their path.

I loved the way each person seemed to interact with the next, and before the series is complete; I’m sure we will see just how each and every character connects.

This series reminds me a lot of the movie Crash … Different couples, very different lives, and how through life events they cross paths, and find hope in the end. This book gives you hope, lets you dream, and surprises you often.

You won’t want to miss this series. This author is going places.

#Naughtyville Approved.
